Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 5 – The 2008 Olympic Games will bring lucrative1 profits to China, and after taking out all the expenses, it is expected that the Olympic Games will generate 16 million US dollars of profits for China, said Li Jinhua, a researcher at the Institute of Quantative and Technical Economics under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), on Tuesday.
He made the statement at an economic achievement release meeting organized by CASS. Li said that in 2007, Olympic economy has entered into a fast cycle of development. In this year, investment made in Olympic-related projects has played a more important role in boosting the economy and many market exploring projects have started to yield fruitful results. Olympic industries have developed rapidly, as manifested in the following aspects. First, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will bring lucrative profits to China. According to the estimation made by the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee, the budget surplus for the Olympic Games will reach 1.685 billion US dollars and the total expenses for the Games will amount to 1.609 billion US dollars. With the surplus and expenses balanced, China can still make 16 million yuan of profits from the Olympic Games. Second, there is a sustained market exploration for the Olympic Games. It is expected that the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee can generate 2 billion US dollars of revenues with its market explortation made to the Olympic Games, to exceed the revenues made by both the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games. Tourist revenues boosted by the Olympic Games will increase substantially and this in turn will boost the development of other industries as well. It is estimated that in 2008, tourist revenues made from outbound tours will reach 4.8-4.9 billion US dollars and revenues generated from domestic tours will reach 139-149 billion yuan. Beijing economy will continue to grow steadily2 after the Olympic Games.
